February 22nd, 2009

Area rugs are made throughout the globe. You can purchase rugs made for generations in the Orient and Persia. They are available in a variety of pieces, ranging from shag pile, to sheep skin, to Capel rugs.

Capel rugs are considered some of the finest-quality pieces in the world. They continue to be created from the famed Capel family business.

Originating in the 1920’s by A. Leon Capel, these braided rugs were first created from rope used for his plowline business. The initial pieces were intended to be simple throw rugs, but over time the business grew into making a variety of shapes, colors and styles.

Later, rugs were made from raw materials processed by Capel’s own mills. Current products are no longer created with the original rope. Yet quality continues to be a primary goal. All processes, from the spinning, weaving, dying and braiding, are all completed by the family business.

First-rate resources direct from the factory attribute to the company’s renowned reputation for durable and reliable goods. Today’s Capel rugs are fabricated from wool, acrylics, rayon and nylon.

Capel produces more than 20 different rug styles. Yet, customers continue to prefer the braided rugs that made the company famous. The choices are limitless as Capel sells more than 200 versions of this design.

The Capel tradition is famous worldwide. People from all over the globe continue to seek out the company’s high-quality products to adorn their homes.
